The Atchison, Topeka, and Santa Fe did not want to incorporate in the state of Nebraska so the railroad had the Chicago and Northwestern build a short connection with the Santa Fe at the Kansas state line. The depot and yard that you see here were once the property of the C&NW. Due to a bridge washout, the C&NW abandoned their line from Seward, Nebraska to Superior in 1972. The Santa Fe purchased the yard tracks, depot, and line to the Kansas state line in 1976 to allow them to continue to connect with the Burlington Northern (former CB&Q) in Superior.

This purely utilitarian depot was constructed by the Chicago and Northwestern. Note the Quality "Q" Santa Fe symbol that was in place in 1997. Page 52 of McMillian's Wheat Lines and Super Freights shows the depot sporting a mission cross in a square painted on the side of the depot.

This image is of a former CB&Q or C&NW wig-wag that stands about 200 feet from the depot. I had to include it here as it is actually now on BNSF property. It is another example of a non-standard Santa Fe wig-wag.
