This photo was taken from a broken window (no I did not break it so don't call the Aurora Co Op!) The reader is asked to imagine branch line passenger service. Up until the coming of Amtrak in May of 1971, railroads in Kansas still operated mixed passenger service due to an old state law. After 1968 mixed service was operated in a waycar as all of the the combine cars had been retired. It had to be an experience to step into the depot at Aurora, purchase a ticket from the agent and ride to Abilene or Superior, Nebraska in a waycar. As you can tell from the photo those days are long gone but the word tickets still shows above the ticket window.
